State
Representative Don Parsons has lived in Cobb County since
1972. He and his wife, Jo
Lynn were married in 1973 after graduating from West Virginia State
University. Representative
Parsons served in the United States Army Reserve and the Army National
Guard for a total of twenty years. He served as a section leader in the Armored Cavalry, and was
later a First Sergeant in the Signal Corp.
He worked
for the Bell System for thirty-five years.
He started his career as a telephone installer-repairman and
worked his way through the company, retiring as Operations Manager of
BellSouth Communications Systems.
He continues to work in the telecommunications field as a
consultant.
He and Jo
Lynn are the parents of two daughters; Jennifer Elizabeth, whom they
lost in 2020, and their younger daughter, Meredith Victoria. They are
grandparents to six grandchildren. Don serves on a number of civic boards, including
the Georgia Ballet Board of Directors and the
North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy.
Don has been a Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives since 1995. He currently serves as Chairman of the House Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Committee. In addition, he also serves on the Appropriations Committee, Ways & Means Committee, the Health & Human Services Committee, the Rural Development Council and the General Assembly Fiscal Affairs Commitee.
